Oops, haven't done this in awhile..
Themes: medieval, sky, fighter Explanations: This is the Stormy Knight from a couple weeks back, what with his backstory being a guardian of the Kingdom in the Sky and what not. His gauntlets are indicative of a brawler or boxer type along with being equipped to harness the power of lightning as shown above. His cloud cape darkens to a blackish hue the more lightning he generates in the palms of his hands, and foes should be weary when he's sporting a cloak as black as night itself. I decided to redraw this one because I felt that I could do better with the design I initially had presented, as while it did meet the criteria, it didn't quite nail the feeling I wanted to go for. With this go, I made his chestplate in the shape of darkened storm clouds to match his helmet, added 'tornado' shaped armor around the waist and legs, as though the tornado was touching down, and felt like having him demonstrate his powers would be much better for the piece. All in all, I think this is a major improvement. Your favorite part: The design. Its more intricate and interesting to look at than the original and I'm proud of that. Your theme suggestion: trees

BEFORE // AFTER Themes: Music, Bed, Magical Girl Explanations: This magical girl is based on a conductor! She creates magical "Z-notes" that force her enemies into a dream-like state! I really loved the concepts of the previous design but I've always felt like something was off about the design- or that the design could be revamped in some sort of way. I kept a few elements the same from the previous design but just added a better color scheme and details to make everything come together nicely. Your favorite part: I like the color scheme way better!! and mostly still adore the hair on this one <3 Your theme suggestion: Monochrome!

Themes: Water, Bones, Villian. Explanations: So I didn't have a whole lot to work with when to came to this contest in particular, so I decided to ask Schrib permission to use a previous theme instead of trying to remake one of the few designs I had (she said yes, but it's better to do what the contest asks lmao). So to explain the actual theme itself, I took inspiration from deep sea creatures, because we don't know what the hell lives down there. I made an amalgam of an angler type fish and a seal, then giving it bioluminescent properties exposing the skeleton and all the nasty shit in there. It's a villian because, well, look at it. Any fish that comes in its path is as good as fucked, Your favorite part: I like that I actually decided to go with a straight up demon creature. This is a fun little exercise. Your theme suggestion: Sparkles

Themes: animals, desserts, pop idol Explanations: This is a completed version of a past theme I didn't finish in time! I was so glad when this weeks theme was announced because I had worked really hard on this one but didn't finish the coloring in time, but now I still get to show it off! This is JJ, the jelly jelly idol! She sings of course, but she enjoys dancing the most. The animal I chose was a jellyfish. Her headphones look like jellies, her ribbons look like the tentacles of the frillier species, and her skirts and top poof like a jellyfish body. Her hair is even a bit tentacle-y. The dessert I chose was jell-o, but I took inspiration from the really fancy kind of gelatin desserts where they layer different flavors and put fruit inside. Her underskirt has fruit pins all over, and her overskirt looks like gelatin that was formed in a bunt pan. Her socks have stripes to look like jell-o layers, and the color palette I used I created from photos of jelly desserts. Also, the pose was referenced from a Drop Pop Candy dance cover! Your favorite part: The skirt. I kind of want that layered skirt in real life now... Your theme suggestion: Druid

PREVIOUS | CURRENT Themes: Music, Bed, Magical Girl Explanations: I decided to redesign Friss because I personally thought I didn't nail the things I wanted to show. Since her previous design had so many silly features, I felt like renewing her (almost) entirely because everything looked so forced altogether. I tried hinting at her personality a bit more by redesigning her hair (dusty rose is associated with shyness and she doesn't want anyone seeing her face). I added a few more musical elements and made her look like she can move around more without hurting herself this time, because the violins around her waist are now soft, little zipper bags instead of those wooden violins that threaten to break! Seriously, who wouldn't get hurt wearing those? Be happy, Friss! You can sit down properly now~ Oh, of course, who wouldn't remember that cute sheep plushie that was once dangling below her waist? It's now her hairclip! Your Favorite Part: Drawing the hair, and maintaining her shy personality like her last design! Theme Suggestion: Fantasy

This week's entries are in! Yesss this is exactly what I like to see! I'm so glad I decided to go with this special week! I'd like to first say a word about some entries! gunny - Look at that, what an amazing improvement! A little more time to think on designs can go such a long way, and this first entry really proves it! All the extra details and ideas put into this character design really makes it shine all the more! Thanks for entering this week! MelancholicDoves - Wonderful redesign! I think the colors have improved a lot, and the general design of the new outfit makes for a fun silhouette! Nice work! Allie - Oh, lovely work. Nice painting job, I love the bioluminescence in the chest cavity, it definitely gives a fun way to show the bones in the picture. You put all the themes together very nicely. Great work! somniari - Ah, I'm glad you were able to finish this! It's so beautiful! All the ideas that went into it are really stunning and unique. Wonderful job implementing all the themes for that week in your design, I think combining jelly with a jelly fish almost seems too perfect! Nice work, thanks for the entry! Sanaku - Ohhh yes! This is such a great improvement. The colors are so much more friendly towards one another, and I just love the design of her new dress! I can tell what her personality is so much better with this new picture. You've done a great job with the redesign! This entry has so much effort in it. Thank you for entering that week! For this month you are the monthly winner and have the option of a full body humanoid picture from me, or $10 through paypal! Your choice!! Congratulations, •Coco• for winning the monthly chibi raffle! You were picked randomly from the long list of names of everyone who entered, some being on the list more than once because of their hard work! Your prize is a chibi drawn by me! The raffle list of names will now be restarted for this month! Enter each week to have a better chance of winning it! Thanks everyone who entered! Even if you didn't win, you always have a chance next week, or even for the monthly chibi raffle! The more times you enter this contest, the better chances you have of winning that~! Themes: Space, Masquerade, Ribbons Explanations: Masquerades are more than just masks haha. So I wanted to go and do an astronaut inspired ball gown with that same inspiration in the mask and the hair clip. The ribbons are part of the hair (since they're kind of hanging on the head and off like ribbons) and the tubes that are normally on spacesuits are fashioned as ribbons. Also, there's space in the slit of her skirt. Your favorite part: I like how I used the whole galaxy motif sparingly, especially since that's where most people go when told to make something space inspired. Your theme suggestion: Underground

Themes: Space, Masquerade, Ribbons Explanations: One of the galaxies wealthiest individuals, Andromedus isn't one for your everyday ball. He often throws expensive parties and get-togethers in the universe's most desired vacation destinations. He is rarely seen without a suit on, which he enjoys decorating with little star and moon charms, as well as wearing his anti-gravity ribbons, allowing the fabric to constantly float through the air for an extra level of radiance. Your favorite part: His mask is kinda neat lol Your theme suggestion: multiple limbs

Themes: Space, Ribbons, Masquerade Explanations: So this is the prime party girl of Saturn, if you need a space party thrown she is the one to talk to. So the space theme is that shes an alien from Saturn, the ribbons are pretty obvious on there, and her "mask" is more of a paint over her eyes. On Saturn the one hosting the party uses paint as a mask so that they can be identified as the host, while the other guests wear regular masks. Your favorite part: I just think shes super cute! Your theme suggestion: Paint

Themes: Space, Ribbons, Masquerade Explanations: This lady is the Space Seamstress. She has the timeline of a whole universe in her dress! Starting from when the universe was just nothing but gas exploding into the Big Bang, and as her dress gets wider, the universe expands. The reason behind her being the Space Seamstress is that she made the dress, and she makes her dress bigger and wider to signify the universe and its expansion. Your favorite part: I think I like how I made the dress look...? Your theme suggestion: Seasons

Themes: Space, Ribbons, Masquerade Explanations: Krypto's got nothin' on this space pooch! I've created a superhero dog with the power of space. Nova here is a superhero who "masquerade's" as a real dog when she's not busy saving the world, and wears a mask of light when she is! Her "cape" is made of ribbons, and her body glows like a galaxy. Your favorite part: I've never really drawn a semi-realistic dog before, so the fact that she turned out looking pretty good makes me happy. Also the galaxy texture looks real nice and i'm not sure i could ever create it again. Your theme suggestion: Stars

Themes: space, ribbons, masquerade Explanations: This is Redshift! Full name Cosmos Redshift 7. She’s a galaxy from far away, but she heard of humans and very much wanted to meet them. She guessed that humans would be quite frightened by an enormous mass of darkness, stars, and planets, so she disguised herself as a human! …She gets an A for effort. She may be the brightest galaxy but she’s not the brightest galaxy. I took masquerade as a more general term for a disguise or a facade. Her mask is supposed to look like a human face and her body human shaped, but she may have miscounted a few features. In her research, she concluded that ribbons are mostly worn by the smallest and most innocent humans, and putting a few on herself would make her much more non-threatening! In fact, she should just wear ribbons as all her clothes, shouldn’t she? Then she will be the most non-threatening. And of course the space element comes from her actually being made of space. Your favorite part: The ribbons! They were fun to draw and color. Your theme suggestion: scales

Themes: Space, Ribbons, Masquerade Explanations: Thousands of years ago, a star shone brightly in the sky. One day, the star was taken from her home by a god who had fallen madly in love with her. She was now to reside in the god's prison. Believing that she deserved only the most beautiful of quarters, he trapped her in a prison of ribbons. Wishing to be the only one to see the star's eyes, he gave her a mask, which she was to wear at all times. The star, after all this time, realized that no one would come to help her. She now plots her escape and to take revenge on her captor This is supposed to be a lil mock myth. The star will get close enough to her captor, a planet, and burn him up just by being nearby. This would explain planet death (when planets burn up when they get too close to a large star.) Theme suggestion: superhero!!

This week's entries are in! What fun this week!! I'd like to first say a word about some entries! Allie - Nice! I think going with minimal galaxy design was the right way to go to make your design feel unique. I wouldn't have thought to base a dress off of astronaut suits! It was a very nice decision and I think it works well! Thank you for your efforts in this entry! gunny - So many fun details! I love the mask design, it helps to bring space and masquerade together quite well and add some fun shapes! Fun idea making the ribbons anti-gravity. I wouldn't have thought of it myself and it's a fun way to combine ribbon and space. Also, love that galaxy drink. In all, this character's design aspects are all interesting and fun. Thanks for the entry this week! eternalashley - What a fun design! What I notice first is her hair, I just love the shape, and it definitely implements the space theme well. Nice job using Saturn's colors for the dress design, too! I also really like how you discern party guest from party host by a painted mask! That's a very cool idea that makes sense. Thank you for entering! Missy R. - What an interesting idea! I love it! making the history of the universe into a dress is very unique and lovely idea. I also like how you used masquerade as a design feature and not part of her story. I wonder just how big her dress is going to get, as the universe continues to expand! Lovely idea and execution. Thank you for entering the contest! somniari - Ahh I laughed so much at "not the BRIGHTEST galaxy", that really got me!! Anyway about the design, nice job!! it's such a fun idea! who would have thought a giant galaxy would be interested in the individual lives of the tiny humans!! Great job thinking of a unique way to use masquerade in your design, love the galactic body and the ribbon as "clothes" is a nice touch! Thanks so much for your entry this week! emily - Very nice story to go along with your design, I like how it's supposed to emulate how real stars get too close to planets and burn them up. As for the design, I love all the sparkly details of the dress, the ribbons surrounding her as her prison is a great touch, and of course it makes sense for her captor to want no one else to see her eyes! Great job showing her emotions in her face, can tell she's a very distressed lady. Thank you for entering the contest! Congratulations, heartlessgem for your winning weekly design! Nice work using the masquerade theme so uniquely! I like how your superhero idea ties in with ribbons for the cape, and the space fur design is very nice! Overall I can tell you worked hard putting effort in both the design and the idea, with all three themes tying together in a way that makes sense to both the design and the character's story. Great job on your unique entry! Thanks everyone who entered! Even if you didn't win, you always have a chance next week, or even for the monthly chibi raffle! The more times you enter this contest, the better chances you have of winning that~! But more than that, my goal for this contest is for us to all have fun together, getting better at designing characters!
It's a new week! Week 2- Due Saturday June 17th, 11:59PM EST

Themes: Stripes, Monochrome, Fruit Explanations: Stripes: Tigers are stripey and I've wanted to draw a tiger again for a while. Monochrome: I picked green like a lime. Fruit: The fruit I picked was a lime. I wanted to try drawing fruit gore for a while, don't know if I did a good job but... here you are! The little flowers are lime blossoms. Your favorite part: I like the tiger stripes, they're really fun to draw. Your theme suggestion: archery
