Story, dialogue, character design, voice acting, sound effects, music, storyboards, animation, guidelines, lineart, keyframes, inbetweens, coloring, shading, backgrounds, compiling.
We all have a favorite part of the process, and indeed we all have things we hate, struggle with, or just omit altogether. What's your favorite part of the fanime process, and why? What's your least favorite part? What are you going to work harder on this year?

This got moved when I was replying to it fuuuuuuuuuuu- Story isn't my favorite. I don't have much confidence in my excuse of story writing.
- I tend to enjoy dialogue more than story making since I like to focus more on the execution of scenes than the reasons behind them. Writing comedic characters comes naturally, but when the script doesn't focus on a joke scene then I realize how flat my characters are.
- Character design is one of my favorite things. Sometimes I'll do character design without any of these other steps.
- Voice acting has to be during a convenient time so its a little inconvenient. I also struggle to do a female voice. Perhaps I'll get that one day.
- Sound effects are a paaaain. I can put them together just fine but getting them is such a hassle.
- Music is my jam. I have as many tracks as characters I believe.
- Storyboards are kind of boring. I almost never do this when animation cause it tends to feel unnecessary. I call my sketches storyboards.
- Animation I am somewhat confident in. It requires a lot of thinking which I thought I was able to pull off until I tried making an action sequence. Didn't quite work out right.
- What are guidelines?
- Lineart. I've only done this for one animation... In terms of drawing art, this is probably my favorite step now.
- Keyframes aren't interesting unless the picture is particularly good or if the scene is really exciting which usually isn't the case.
- It's been so long since I've done inbetweens. I imagine you all know that I've only done smears. I'd prefer not to do them though. It's not like people draw smears for fun after all.
- I think I've gotten the hang of coloring thanks to Allie and Aura. Do I prefer to color now? Nah. Not really.
- Shading I only use for animation if the scene isn't animated. For still art it's alright I guess.
Backgrounds are the devil. I usually don't bother which should probably change eventually.- Compiling can actually be a really painful and aggravating process sometimes. I usually find a way around things but don't find it particularly fun.
- For the future I might actually make a background for once. I also have animations I want to work harder on in mind. More than I have been anyway.

It usually depends on the project I do! Is it animated or is it visual novel style?? 0u0
Tho if you want an answer for both I'd say it's the video editing! Idk, something about that is a like of fun!!
I also like animating smears (because fuck yes.) and making sprites!

This got moved when I was replying to it fuuuuuuuuuuuAhahahaha sorry Tenshi! Anyway compiling and editing is by far the best bit of the process. It's fine tuning everything until it looks nice, and you're really getting a feel of the whole project coming together. Backgrounds are my nemesis. It takes far too long and I can't paint for jack so it ends up looking like a distracting blobby mess.

Writing the story and adding color/shading are my favorite parts.
I used to like creating music a lot more than I do now, same with more of the other audio aspects. I have to be in the right mood for character design (I'm not very good at it) backgrounds and the animation parts (wanting to do something tedious with not too much thought in it)
Inking is the bane of my existence

I want to say inbetweens are my favorite part! I guess I like it because it's a mindless activity and I find myself being really relaxed when I do them! Keyframing is a close second because I like creating the bare bones of what my animation will look like when it's finished. Aside from that, compiling and editing are really fun too! Seeing the entire thing come together at that point makes me feel very accomplished. as for things I hate: Backgrounds. Backgrounds. Backgrounds. I have so little time for them? Like I know I have the ability to make somewhat nice backgrounds but I really have to be in the mood for it- and 9 times out of 10 I'm not. I guess working with backgrounds is something I would like to work with more? Creating an atmosphere like I did with ( Agnes) more and improving it would be fine by me. That and storyboarding. I never storyboard. I throw poses and angles together that might work and hope for the best. I guess taking the time to asses the scene and sketch it out entirely before moving on is something I should put more effort into doing.

Would it be a shock if I say editing? Because it shouldn't be if you've seen Project: Unknown. I love editing of any kind, sound design, effects, compositing, the works. Super fun. I just like making things look nice and polished really!
I also actually really like lip syncing, but its not something I have the time for in most of my projects because it just adds a whole extra step (especially if you want to make more realistic jaw movements and things, which you kind of have to if you're doing side views unless you do the anime side-mouth thing I see a lot).
I'm on the background train with everyone else in terms of loathing. Why do you think my first series took place in a mostly deserted wasteland? With creatures that conveniently ate away at cities and made them uninhabitable so everyone lived in caves and tents? Apocalyptic settings are so much easier tbh. Something looks like shit? Its the apocalypse everything looks like shit.
Besides that, rough animation is also something I struggle with, same with sketching. Like I said in the first section, I like making things look nice, so anything before the line art stage makes me cringe. Sometimes I skip right to line art to avoid this if I'm working on something simple or something I have confidence in, but I've shaken this habit mostly unless I'm meeting a strict deadline.

I'd have to say character designing and storyboarding. I don't REALLY like animating so that's why I take so long on newer projects haha. I prefer visual novel style.

I think my fave part of the fanime process is the story. least favorite is editing, like omigosh! I wanted to vault myself out my bedroom window after finishing the editing for Typical Magical Girls episode 2. (which took at least 4 different tries for editing) what I hope to improve on?? Hmmm, my art and art style

I hate scripting/preproduction and editing and compiling is difficult for me.
I have poor concentration and can't multitask while scripting. I get really lonely because I can't talk to people or listen to other people talk. Compiling in VP12 is a nightmare, its a legitimately worse program than previous versions of vegas pro and very unstable.
Parts of the process I like are line art and making backgrounds, but I rarely get to do them or have to rush them.

I haaaate scripting and editing/compiling. Or pretty much anything that does not involve drawing haha;; I mainly enjoy doing still shots and backgrounds! As time consuming and frustrating as it can be to make a decent background, it is actually enjoyable to me. It does get overwhelming when you realize you have to do a lot of them tho, especially very detailed ones with crazy angles and perspective and all that jazz ahaha, then I want to die... Key frames can be tedious depending on the scenario that's being animated. I hate having to do rough/test animations. Inbetweens are kinda ok, they're not too enjoyable to do but, it's nice to sometimes work on something that doesn't requite too much thought, since it's basically like filling in the blanks. Coloring is tedious, and so is shading but I want to try to incorporate shading into my new fanime and then hate myself for it. What I really want to work harder on this year is backgrounds. I haven't worked on a project that has really challenged me or pushed me to work on backgrounds. My first fanime projects weren't too serious, I always half-assed whatever backgrounds I did do. This new fanime I'm working on will be a more serious project so I do want the backgrounds to look decent enough.
