This is something that come across my mind a couple of times, including as of late. :0
So, a fanimator usually wants to re-do their series to make it a little more a appealing for those with higher expectations (I.E. Tokyo Crystal Mew and Aliens by Kisaka)
So, I know there was a difference in opinions about the idea of re-doing a fanime. Some say it's a waste of time and just say continue where you left off. Others will say that that it might be for the best, if that's what you feel the most comfortable with.
I'll say my two cents about this, and I'll even use my fanime as an example. (Excluding SCFD because that one is done, lmao.)
With series like Penalty All About/Penatly X and Maroku's Adventures, even if they have like a pretty crappy start in terms of art and writting, I feel like I have to finish them up, even going as far as letting new viewers seen how far I come! So I can understand the "Contnuing where you left off." side.
With series like Carrot Fluffs, on the other hand (epsecially with the state it's in now), I feel like I wanna revamp it to make it better than it was. Though, I probably wanna finish PX and MA first before that would happen. I mainly just wanna redesign shit because after the April Fools special, I have regret. (I.E., Visiarko's old design)
Anyways, that is my two sence, how do you feel about the idea of re-doing a fanime? :0

honestly, I love the idea of remakes and revamps. In my own personal opinion they aren't a waste of time. It's always kinda cool to see how the original series is compared to a remake because you can see how much a person has improved art and writing wise. I'm all for fanime remakes!

I fully agree to this! Revamps and Remakes are just a sign that you care about your fanime! I completely redid the original storyline that I had planned for mine, and it was the best decision I ever made! I LOVE the idea of putting time into your fanime and recreating it in a sense. ♥

I'd only support something like that if it doesn't infringe on making new content for the series.
I do not want to see another episode 1 over like, episode 5. It only really works for me if the series is already finished.

I agree with AllieThe main reason I stopped Project Unknown where I did is because, for the remake, almost everything that has already occurred is being heavily rewritten or completely taken out. All characters that I didn't create, such as Addyson, Sephex, Mariella, and Cain, are being removed and the revamp will focus on the characters stories that haven't been fully explained, such as Rebel, Abel, and Mariess. While these characters may have been fan favorites that won't be in the series anymore, they weren't my own original creations and I didn't feel right working on a series anymore that had so much screen time for characters I didn't make myself.

I can see the appeal of wanting to reboot a series but I know for myself it would mean I'd never complete anything. And I have a lot of fanimes I'd like to start work on after Deity/Zero's done (whenever in the distant future that ends up being ). I'd rather start on those instead of treading old ground. But, on the other hand, rebooting a series might be what keeps someone else motivated or they might take an old series in an interesting new direction. Ultimately, if it keeps you animating it can only be a good thing.

I think it's a really fun idea to go back and remake something much older once you've improved a lot with your animation/writing skills. I REALLY don't recommend going back and deleting the original version, though. It always makes me sad to see that happen.

I really love the idea of revamps/reboots! A lot of us are never really the exact same person we were a year ago, both artistically and personality wise. So I think it's really empowering for an artist to look back at an old work, critique it, and make it better with their new skills. Plus it gives a nice reaffirmation to that despite the fact that sometimes we think we aren't improving, we actually are always getting better little by little! On the other hand, I also think that if it's the case that you want to revamp/redo a series that you haven't completed yet, I think it's better to just continue where you left off, unless it's the case that you're redoing the series because you want the plot to go an entirely different direction than initially intended.

Well, of course I'm more prone to the idea of re-making a series because I'm playing with that idea for The Antagonist at the moment, haha. Ultimately I think it depends on a lot of different aspects: How much does the series mean to you? How much are you planning on changing? How long is the series? Whats the long-term goals when you start this project?
For example, I love my fanime 'Nana'. I love the story and want to continue it but I know I don't have the priority to getting it animated and continue making more. In this case I'm currently making scripts to convert it to a visual novel where completing it is a little more realistic.
I toyed with the idea of rebooting 'Our Life in The Sphinx" and making another episode with nice quality, but I decided against it because, while I like the series and would be interested in seeing another episode, I don't love it enough to actually go through with it compared to continuing another project.
With 'My Demon Girlfriend", I briefly thought about remaking the first episode, but I realized I was so far into the series and, since I didnt want to change the story or aesthetic of the episode, it made more sense to just complete the series.
AND lastly, with 'The Antagonist', I planed on rebooting the series with a lot of changes to pacing, character designs, small story tweaks, and animation style. I hate looking back on the previous episodes I made because I didnt have a lot of skills back when I first made it, and since the story is so close and dear to my heart, I feel like I'm making the right decision by scrapping what I have and starting over.
So again, it's really situational and entirely up to you. If something deep inside of you wants to remake something and you really want to go pull through with said project-- go for it! If not, rethink your priorities!
