We want to know what YOU guys want from this forum! We want this to be a hub for creative juices to flow, a place fanimators can finally call home! But we can't do that if we don't draw more people here and get our activity level up. I know there are more fanimators out there then this!
So, my big question is...
...what would YOU want to see to help make this forum stand out?
If you were a new user looking in, what would make you want to stay?
(All feedback is welcome and appreciated!)

I kind of disagree with mangolee on this. While art fight has proven that fanimators can still be interested in art games, it seems like that interest has declined when looking at Schribbit's design contest and Give One, Take One. I think a lot of people also don't have as much time to draw as they used to, but my main problem with focusing on art games is that this forum already seems to be too similar to Creative Studio Forum as it is. This forum almost feels like a carbon copy by having so much focus on art rather than the one theme that makes this forum different which is fanime. I feel like there's a lot of new discussions that could be had if we were to focus on fanime since Creative Studio actively discouraged fanime discussions. A list of discussions that could be had include: - What do you think could be done to make the fanime community more active again?
- What are your ideas on how to make a magical girl fanime unique/interesting?
- Favorite fanime villains
- Funniest moments in fanime
- What fanime do you think are underrated?
- Add a caption to the fanime screenshot
- Fuck, Marry, Kill with fanime characters
I never bothered starting any of these discussions myself because I'm not sure if other people are still interested in discussing fanime, but I certainly would be and I'd like to know if other people are on the same boat. Maybe I'll start these discussions on this forum if people show interest. I've also noticed that people don't draw fan art for other fanimes much anymore, so having a thread dedicated to encouraging fan art for the latest big fanime release might be cool. I also find it strange that we have a mascot on the banner for this forum just like on Creative Studio instead of one or multiple banners with fanime characters on it. It would be cool to see a Magical Girl School forum theme, or a Seven Sinisters forum theme for example. Sorry if this post came off as harsh. I had a lot to say because this has been on my mind for a while.

Especially considering we were discourage about fanime discussions in the past on the CSF. And all of these are good ideas! I actually have an idea that as been on my mind that might be similar to the "Add a caption to the fanime screenshot" idea is Fanime Screencap redraws. Where you take a screenshot from any fanime and redraw it! I'm not too sure if Cassi may allow that but hey better to say it now!

I had a lot to say because this has been on my mind for a while. Thank you Jay! I did take a lot of inspiration from CSF, because for awhile CSF worked really well. It's also the only forum I've ever been active on and as a new forum runner it was my only template to take from. The banner was just to get something up and running, since we didn't have a banner and having a mascot would help with the fanime channel I was planning on starting in relation (and to promote) this forum and the community in general. Changing up forum themes is something I've had in mind but have never wanted to impliment because well. I'm bad at them. But I have some lovely captains who I'm sure would be willing to help me out <3 mangolee I think a lot of what Jay said is also what you meant! He just went into a lot more detail haha. Thank you both for your comments I appreciate them and will talk further with staff about how to implement some of these overtime!

I generally dwell on the RPG Maker forum, and I'm seeing alot of similar formats here which I find visually pleasing. The website is very easy to navigate. THOUGHTS AND IDEAS (FOR THE "WHAT I WANT TO SEE" QUESTION) For organization, it would be nice to see some rules pinned to the individual topic sections (that has a description of that section, like you did with the Roleplaying section). I parallel to the rpg maker forum, beacuse its the one community I keep coming back to. This may be due to its variety of sections or even variety of different kinds of artists. It might be nice to see a more collaborative format, that may bring in other kinds of artists, from musicians to writters, who may not animate or draw, but may want to be involved in the process of fanimation. That seemed to be the hardest thing I found about the fanimation community. It feels very strictly "Animation" and "animators". I'm not saying its on purpose, but that is what it felt like for me. Rpg games, are a very collaborative process, due to its combined elements, however animation is as well, but I see much more "one man band" type of situations, and very little collaboration with the exception of MAPs. So, I thought perhaps you guys could have a "collabation" section or a "request" section. (Perhaps this is what the "Help me" section is, but it wasn't clear to me) From what I've seen of the community, things like asking people to do "MAPs" could go in this kind of section. I personally have gone away from animating, but would love to color people's line art or even make free resoures (I do this alot in the other forum). Perhaps there are some people who, just want to do, just the music, writting, or animating. "If you were a new user looking in, what would make you want to stay?" For this question, I would say it would be how the community will go, going forward. Right now I'm just here to look at people's projects and maybe offer what resources I've found. However, since I have slowly moved away from animation, there doesn't seem like there is much of a space for me to dwell at here, esspecially project wise. So, I guess the question would be, would you guys be willing to push foward other aspects into the community, or is it a situation of, if your not animating then there's no strong reason to be here. So, for this, it would be nice to see a "Non-Fanimation" project section or perhaps more tabs in "General art" section, than just "comics" Maybe even having a seperate general art and a unrelated project section. (Not sure what woud work best, its just not clear to me here) Where people can post other projects, perhaps they can post here, the webcomics that go along side there series, games that go along, or even new "unrelated" projects all together. Just overal extra sections, maybe give the voice actors there own general discussion section. Give more types of artists spaces, so they can feel more joined in the community if they are collaborating and not just, "This is just the place I advertise my voice active, etc." Overall having more and clearer sections would be nice. As well as maybe broadening the targeted audiance, that may beef up the community some and make it feel more welcoming. Understandably the focus would still be "Fanime", but some more spaces for other things could be nice". -Individual topic rules/ and or description threads -Introduction section would be nice -Collaborative or request sections -Clearer non-fanimation project section -General discussion for voice actors -Maybe eventually sub section creative resources (so its easier to find, music resources from art tolls etc.) -Software help and questions -Tutorial Section THE POSITIVES I'm excited to see the direction I see so far. The RP section looks fun, I used to do alot of RP stuff back on Devainart. Also I'm sorry if I was a little picky about the different sections, it definitly looks like you guys are pushing for some variety with your sections, it just doesn't seem like its there for me yet. However, this is all just my thoughts and opinions, thanks for reading, I know this is like a book

However, this is all just my thoughts and opinions, thanks for reading, I know this is like a book I disagree with a lot of this. The thing about the RPG maker forums is that it's a huge forum, so it needs clear rules and regulations and it needs lots of topics to include as many people as possible, but the fanimation forums is built by such a small community that this is almost more like a group of friends than a large scale community like what RPG maker has. Nobody on this forum is trying to stir up chaos like the random trolls or rude children you'd see on more popular forums so there's not much point in being more strict. Pinning rules to individual topic sections would only make the forum seem more strict than it needs to be. Bringing in other types of artists also seems unneeded. That's what Creative Studio Forum is for. If we invite other types of artists then we wouldn't be able to talk about fanime without excluding them, so it seems nice to have a place to talk about fanime. I'm honestly not interested in trying to broaden the audience on this forum. Back in 2014 the fanime community exploded in popularity but along with getting lots of great animators the community also brought in a few drama queens and people who would derail conversations. The more people you bring in the more likely you are to bring in unwanted people. I think popular is not always better. Perhaps a collab section and/or non-fanime project section has potential but almost nobody in this community works on projects much anymore so there wouldn't be much point lol.

I'll consider both of your points with the forum team and see what their thoughts are! As we've seen in the past the forum has been too strict and it has hindered some of the enjoyment of users in certain sections of the forum. I'm still working on making things more easy going and straightforward! However, a few of these things could be looked at for adding additional content to the forum, although most likely not near the extent that was discussed in lrturner 's original post for some of the reasons funnybunnyjay stated. We are a fanime forum first and foremost, and while I'd love to broaden the spectrum of users I also don't want to attract people who aren't interested in fanime at all and will come here for only the non-fanime related sections. This is clearly something that needs some careful thought before any rash choices are made to change up the structure of the forum. Thank you both for your feedback and insight!

I think having section specific rules is completely okay though, some rules only apply to certain areas of the forum and it's easier to follow a few guidelines when making a post in a particular section then a longer general list. Since like 90% of the rules are common sense anyway, I see no strictness- just more organized. Member count shouldn't dictate how rules are placed too imo, if the forum grows in member count we'd end up placing it there regardless.
I do agree the main point of this forum should be fanime, though. However I think welcoming in anyone interested in the forum regardless of their connection to fanime should be encouraged. Also- since The Fanimation Forum is a completely different forum, comparing it to Creative Studio is unneeded regarding audience. This forum was made to be a central hub for fanimation and a place to discuss series, animation, etc. it's outreach shouldnt depend on what potential drama might come in numbers. Derailing conversations and calling names / being aggressive / etc would also be part of the rules on this particular forum as well and thats why mods exist. I would suggest not broadening the audience of a live chat or discord, but since forums are more generalized and spread out in conversation I don't think this particular line of thinking should apply?
Lastly, I'm game for a collab / non-fanime project section. I know some people have trouble categorizing projects sometimes so it would be nice to have that option!

Well, I haven't actually been on any popular forums myself so I guess I wouldn't know too much about the extent of it, I'd trust your opinion on huge forums actually. The closest I've experienced was joining a political facebook group, lots of people are very angry there....lol. Maybe a moderate sized audience (less than 1k?) would be nice though!!! I really dont think this particular forum would exceed that though! (At least, I hope not LOL)

It's nice to hear these different thoughts. Sorry that I'm not good at explaining. Those were just some thoughts and ideas, I'm not suggesting any rash decisions or anything. MelancholicDoves Yes, thats is what I was trying to say. I'm not suggesting new strict rules or anything, just some structure and organization, that can come from rules, guidlines, and even just a clear description of what a section is for. funnybunnyjay and Cassiroll - With different sections for different types of artist, I'm not thinking of developing different "unrelated pocket communities", however I now understand your concern. Though this doesn't seem to happen on the big forum I'm on. You don't see seperate groups form. M usic people comment on art stuff, art people more like me comment on theres. You don't see much hovering of a type of section. We all seem to come together on the bigger common interest that forum was made for and don't really break off from that (thats not to say there are not outliers, but its fairly rare, if it does happen they don't stay on the forum long, though that forum has strong "Getting off-topic" rules), but perhaps thats due to those rules, I'm not sure; however I can now understand how that could get out of hand here. I'm glad I was able to here your perspective on that. Though I would still say, having seperate sections can really help to keep "off topic coversations" from developing in areas you don't want. So, there may be some off-topic things happening here and there, which gets put away in a section, however fanime would still be the overall forum focus. (Just my thoughts) Interestingly I have had the oposite experince with forums, I have had more negative experiences with small communities than big ones. One of the biggest issues I came across was a lack of focus and structure, many small communities I've been in, have a general interest, but make no effort to expand or introduce more people (and very unorganized), most of those fall out from lack of participation and interest. Members leave, but no new ones were advertised to join so the group just disappears member by member. With the big forum, I had the comfort of knowning, if I went on a big hiatus, that the group would still actually be there when I came back. In addition, some small groups can take things like lack of participation and leaving much more personally than big ones, that may not even notice the back and forth. I personally hate groups that "require" you to "participate", even doing "checks" on you, and asking you to leave if your in-active. I avoid those (But I don't believe this is one of those places, which really excites me) I like the loose atmosphere feeling I get from this forum, but I have my worries from experience with other groups.
