How did you first discover fanime? I first found out about fanime in my early years of YouTube, where I stumbled upon Elemental Goddess. I didn't know what a fanime was actually called until around 2011/2012.

I had a longer version of this but I'll break it down.
I discovered fanime through TvTropes, got through let's watches around 2011. I watchd Nyan Neko Sugar Girls (which I took seriously) around that time but the fanime I enjoyed watching was My Jungle Book, Your Year around late 2013. And around 2014, after discovering Kawaii Schoolgirl and Fanime Update back during its earlier days, got myself in the fanime whole and watched a lot of fanime from there.

Settle down kiddos cause do I have a tale for you.
Long ago, in the times of Tokyo Crystal Mew, I was a wee lass in 6th grade. I watched TCM and was inspired to create my own Guilderland Mew Mew, and boy was it a rocky start but everything is alright now. I then discovered other fanimes, like Elemental Goddess, Eternal, and Guardian Angel. I don't remember when the term fanime was coined but I was around for it. Goodness it's hard to believe that I've been around this community for like 10 years though.

I got into it when MelodyFan12 was just starting to animate. Man Elemental Goddess and Eternal were my childhood.

Short answer: AuroraStar and Boring Trousers.
My old response "The first time I remember paying attention to fanime was when I saw a WIP of a subscriber to one of my channels. This person actually commented on my videos so I checked out some fanime stuff and thought "Hey, I wanted to make my own anime for a really long time now." Stuff like School Rumble and Kill me baby inspired this idea. It was just an idea for at least a year and a half... Then I saw a Dorkly bits video about sonic fan characters. I looked into how... original...these characters are and became interested in learning more about them. So I ended up searching sonic fan character on youtube nearly everyday and I saw a new video of someone saying (yelling?) SA2 is overrated, and of course I wanted to see other people's reaction to this. I found a channel commenting on his videos, and after watching those I saw their fanime commentaries... and then more fanime commentaries. Then I ran out of commentaries to watch. Then I start searching fanime nearly everyday and found fanime update. Watching this series just made me way too eager to share this idea that I've been thinking about for so long..."
... except now I'm not as eager to share the idea lol

I found fanime by looking up "my anime opening" and then I found openings like Yin Yang, Gospel, Chalk Dusk, etc. My first fanime was Yin Yang, but my first fanime knowing it was fanime was Magical Girl School. ;p

Danng all these titles bringing back memories... x'D Man... this was back when youtube was like, a tadpole. I was really into pokemon at the time and I just made a bunch of MSpaint animated pokemon stuff-- then I came across Elemental Goddess, stuff by Chii24, Tokyo Magic Star and a bunch of others like Incarna 77 and Odd4 . I decided that I wanted to make a Pokemon fanime series since it hadn't been done yet! ( I swore to make 10 minute episodes and a movie lolol gawd)...but that quickly deemed too tough and eventually I moved on. But I came back because I missed telling original stories through fanime...its just pure fun...and watching you guys' working so hard on your fanimes inspired me to give it a try again...and now I can't stop! I just love this community <3

I was exposed to a lot of the fanime community back when Odd4 and Chii24 was a thing. I personally had no clue what it really was aside from people wanting to make their own animations and left it at that. Back then, I only lurked and my art was really crappy so the cute little animation memes and PV remakes I did where generally ignored. Since I never made any connections with anyone I ended up getting into different things away from the community till I rediscovered it in 2014(?) in the form of some losers commentating on Project: Unknown. To be quite honest, my original intention was to make fun of the series and I started watching it jokingly with a friend, but then as the episodes went on I realized I actually kinda liked both the series and the effort the original creator put into it. I ended up watching Proun like twice in the span of a few weeks and ended up getting fanime related recommendations like Odd4, Fanime Update, and Magical Girl School. The more I watched these videos the more inspired I was to make a series of my own under the "fanime" title. While I posted updates of The Antagonist, I noticed my work actually being noticed and recognized by really friendly people-- which made me very happy! I attended fanime related streams and got a lot of nice feedback on my series once I posted it. Since then I was added to the fanime skype group and made a bunch of new friends and made a bunch of content.
....and now I'm here 3 years later with vast art and animation improvement, rad friends (some I traveled to see!), and quite literally a boyfriend all because of fanime.
so thats kinda cool : ^ )

I am a latecomer to the fanime community -- like a lot of you I found out about it on YouTube. I started a few animation projects in the early-mid 2000s when I was still in college, but I ended up hating animation and dropping it altogether in favor of comics. I can't remember why I got back into it, around 2013 -- but when I started posting my progress to YouTube, I'd get related videos of other people's projects.

Well, Nyan Neko Sugar Girls and Senpai club brought me int the fanime community back at around 2015. Later on I discovered more serious fanime like Magical Girl School and Project: Uknown and I decided that I could make my own series that doesn't really have to be a parody kr a troll. I had a few projects at the time but I thought that none of them would really be ideal for a fanime .so, with the help of my brother and my best friend, Super Secret Witchraft Club was created!

First fanime I saw was Eternal by melodyfan12 as far as I can remember.
It was really inspiring to see somebody make their own amateur anime without using Flash. It almost looked like something even I could do, and that was really motivating.

I discovered fanime when I searched up "my own animation" on YouTube. I don't know what age I was, but I'm sure I was around third grade when I saw this video. Then, I found Eternal by melodyfan12. It inspired me to make music videos and a fanime of my own with MS Paint, thank god I didn't post it. Now it's gone but I thank the gods because it was SO BAD. I eventually discovered the community in around June 2013 when Fanime Update featured my video.
